People can use oculus masks fitted with lenses
to enable riders to view 3D images on a TV screen
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is
giving people a virtual trip on the Dubai Tram using simulation technology
ahead of its launch on November 11.
Families at Mirdif City Centre were treated to
the simulation of boarding and travelling and touring the tram.
The experience was replicated at Dubai Mall and
Mall of the Emirates, and it will be on display at Ghubaiba Metro station today
– Public Transport Day – so that everyone will have an idea of how the tram
will operate.
Moaza Saeed Al Marri, director of RTA Marketing
and Corporate Communication, said to use the technology people will be fitted
with oculus masks fitted with lenses to enable riders to view 3D images on a TV
screen which takes them on the virtual Dubai tram trip.
Al Marri added: “The ocular device users find
themselves in one of the waiting stations where they hop on the tram and tour
the gold and silver coaches, and view children and women compartments, besides
enjoying a window view of Dubai’s gorgeous sceneries and landmarks such as Al
Sufouh, Knowledge Village, the Palm Jumeirah, Marina Towers, Dubai Marina and
Jumeirah Beach Residence, relishing a suspenseful virtual trip.
“Virtual
riders will also have a look at the unique features, delicacy and luxury of the
tram coaches and fancy trips before they can enjoy such experience in the
real-world practice, where users can find out that the Tram coaxes a paradigm
addition to the mass transport systems in Dubai Emirate.
“The
introduction of virtual reality technology system was conceived as part of the
endeavours to promote the Dubai Tram, as an entertaining means of transport
capable of serving the transit needs of the target groups lifting them to their
intended destinations.”
The Dubai Tram will be the first tramway
project, outside of Europe, powered by a ground-based electric supply.
